Museum of Tokaj - One institute in two buildings

In the heart of Tokaj, at the edge of the main square is the Museum of Tokaj. The one-storey building was built by a Greek family - called Karácsony (Christmas)- around 1790. It is richly decorated inside and out. As a museum it could be visited since 1985. The building and the exhibition was rejuvenated and re-opened on 15th of March, 2016. The aim is to present the thousand-year history, archeology, ethnography, local history and even more of Tokaj Foothill.

The World Heritage Wine Museum is opened in order to present those European wine regions which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Altough we focus on ‘Tokaj-Hegyalja’ Wine Region, beside of this, you can read about Austrian, French, German, Italian, Portugal and Swiss wine regions too. Our visitors can explore Tokaj-Hegyalja on foot, by bicycle or even by car without leaving the museum.
